Interview Conducted by Olivia Boyd
1. What inspired you to start OptiGold PMO Consulting?
After spending years in the trenches of enterprise PMO leadership, I realized how often PMOs are either underutilized or misunderstood. I wanted to help organizations unlock the true value of their PMO by tailoring it to their culture, business goals, and strategic investments, not just pushing templates or processes. OptiGold was born out of a desire to elevate the PMO conversation and provide practical, right-sized solutions that stick.
2. What does the name “OptiGold” mean to you?
“OptiGold” is a fusion of two ideas: optimization and value. PMOs bring value when they are optimized for impact, not just process. The “gold” reflects excellence, clarity, and a standard of quality. I want our clients to feel they’ve struck gold when they partner with us, getting lasting value, not just a temporary fix.
3. What makes OptiGold PMO Consulting different from other firms?
We’re not trying to be everything to everyone. I’ve intentionally designed the business to be lean, strategic, and responsive. We focus on what matters most, which is building PMOs that are fit-for-purpose, aligned to the business, and capable of driving measurable results. We don’t just drop off a playbook and leave. We embed ourselves in the context, culture, and cadence of each client.
4. Who is your ideal client?
We will always support our clients no matter the market segment. What I see most currently is Mid-sized to enterprise organizations that know they need stronger PMO capabilities but don’t want a one-size-fits-all approach. We work best with companies that are ready to mature their delivery capabilities, gain transparency, improve prioritization, and align their portfolios to strategy. Often, our clients are growing fast, experiencing organizational change, or hitting a ceiling with their current processes.
5. What’s your long-term vision for the company?
In the next few years, I want OptiGold to be the go-to firm for practical, high-impact PMO advisory services. My goal is not aggressive scaling but sustainable growth, leading with trust, building meaningful relationships, and eventually expanding with a small team of experts who share the same values. Long-term, I’d love to see OptiGold known for its integrity, results, and lasting client partnerships.
6. What’s one of the most rewarding moments of your career so far?
One moment that stands out was leading a PMO transformation for a global organization. We went from scattered, ad hoc project execution to a functioning, transparent portfolio that aligned with business strategy. Watching my team of project managers grow, leaders gain clarity, and the business start to see real ROI, that was incredibly rewarding. It reminded me why I love this work.
7. What challenges do organizations often face when building or optimizing their PMO?
They often struggle with clarity, purpose, role, and value. PMOs can become too tactical, too bureaucratic, or disconnected from business strategy. Others try to copy someone else’s model and wonder why it doesn’t stick. My job is to cut through the noise, meet them where they are, and help build something that’s sustainable, scalable, and respected.
8. What’s your philosophy when it comes to leadership and consulting?
Be honest, be practical, and be invested. I approach every engagement with humility and curiosity. I don’t assume I know everything. I ask, I listen, and I adapt. My role is to help others lead their organizations and the PMOs that support them with more clarity, confidence, and capability.
9. What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of my career endeavors, I love spending time with my partner Corinne and our family, exploring the outdoors, and getting off the grid once in a while. We’re also expecting our first child in July 2025 and I’ll be a #girldad, which I’m very excited about. It adds to my motivation to be the best I can be and bring something impactful to the world that she can be proud her dad is doing. I’m also a fan of a round of golf, a live sporting event, live music, and reading books about personal and professional development.
10. What advice would you give someone starting their own consulting business?
Start with Clarity: On your value, what problems you can solve, your audience, and what kind of business you truly want to build. It’s easy to chase growth, but sustainable success comes from focus. Also, don’t underestimate the power of relationships. Be the kind of consultant people want to work with again and again.
